Meet the Heart Behind TacoboutWellness

Hey friend — I’m Shandy.

I’m a registered nurse with over 20 years of experience, a solo mama of two amazing boys, and someone who deeply understands what it’s like to live in a body that doesn’t always cooperate.

I created TacoboutWellness as a safe, supportive space for the chronically exhausted — especially those navigating life with chronic illness, neurodivergence, trauma, and burnout.

But there’s more to my story...

Over a decade ago, I had bariatric surgery as part of my wellness journey. And while it was life-changing, the years that followed weren’t always easy. Regain, nutritional struggles, food guilt, identity shifts, and emotional healing — I’ve lived it all. Most of the long-term stuff, people don’t talk about it. But here, we do.

I also live with POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), C-PTSD, and ADHD/Autism, which means I’ve learned how to work with my body — not against it — through trial, error, grace, and grit. I know what it feels like to crave rest in a world that celebrates hustle. And I know how lonely it can feel trying to get your health back while raising a family and trying to hold it all together.

That’s why I write.

Through honest blog posts, practical tools, and lived experience, I hope to support you — whether you're recovering from burnout, managing invisible illness, navigating post-op bariatric life, or just trying to figure out how to function on days when “wellness” feels out of reach.

You're not alone here.

Pull up a cozy blanket, grab your water bottle (and your salt, if you’re a fellow Spoonie ), and let’s taco ’bout healing — in all its messy, beautiful forms.
